You already carry a fragrance
Before you say a word, you are already communicating something. The way you treat people, the peace you carry, the integrity you live by — all of it leaves an impression. Paul calls this the aroma of Christ.
Tool 2 is about becoming aware of the fragrance your life already carries, and learning to be intentional about it. Mission is not only about what we say — it is about who we are in the everyday moments of life.
Jesus was known not just for his teaching but for the quality of his presence. People were drawn to him. They wanted to be near him. They invited him to their homes and their tables. That same quality of life — marked by love, joy, peace, and genuine care — is available to every follower of Jesus.
The aroma of Christ is not a technique. It is the natural overflow of a life being transformed by the Holy Spirit. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, the fragrance of his character begins to permeate everything we do.

Why this matters
In a world saturated with words, people are hungry for something real. They are watching how Christians actually live — whether our faith makes a difference to how we treat our families, our colleagues, our neighbours.
The aroma of Christ is compelling precisely because it cannot be faked. Genuine love, unexplained peace, and consistent integrity stand out. They create curiosity. They open doors that arguments never could.
When people sense something different about you — a quality of life they cannot quite name — they begin to ask questions. And questions are the beginning of spiritual conversations.
This is not about being perfect. It is about being real, being present, and allowing the Holy Spirit to work through your ordinary life in extraordinary ways.
People are not primarily looking for answers. They are looking for a life that makes the answers worth wanting.
Group exercise
Reflect on your fragrance
Ask yourself honestly: what impression do I leave on the people around me? What would my colleagues, neighbours, or family say about the quality of my presence? Share your reflections with the group.
Identify Christlike qualities
List three qualities of Jesus that you would most like people to notice in you. Discuss what it would look like to grow in each of these areas in your specific mission field.
Name a moment this week
Think of a specific moment this week where you had the opportunity to carry the aroma of Christ. What happened? What would you do differently? What did God do through you?
Pray for transformation
Pray together that the Holy Spirit would deepen the character of Christ in each of you — not so you appear better, but so that Jesus becomes more visible through your ordinary life.
